Hawks star in strife following sling tackle

Hawks star in strife following sling tackle

Hawthorn's Shaun Burgoyne could find himself on the sidelines after he put a dangerous tackle on Geelong's Patrick Dangerfield.

The Hawks on Friday night were thumped at the hands of the Cats, 108-47 at GMHBA Stadium.

After Richmond and Collingwood restarted the season with a 36-all draw on Thursday, the Cats gave TV audiences a more free-flowing spectacle at their home fortress.

But Hawthorn will be sweating on the AFL's match review committee after Burgoyne placed a sling tackle on Dangerfield. The Cats received a free kick at the time for the infringement.

The 37-year-old now faces a nervous wait with AFL legend Brian Taylor conceding the Hawks star will likely have a case to answer.

"That's a little bit of trouble for Shaun Burgoyne there," Taylor said on commentary Seven's commentary.

"I know he probably didn't mean it but the fact is it happened.

"You've still got to execute the tackle legally, and that's probably where the issue is despite him pleading that he didn't know where the footy was at the time."

After the match, Dangerfield declared there were no hard feelings over the tackle.

"It's hard to see through someone's shoulder," Dangerfield said.

"It's an instinctive game that we all play, we try and play on the edge. That's what I saw it as."
