Walters leaves door open for Inglis' State of Origin return

Queensland coach Kevin Walters has left the door open for a sensational State of Origin return for Greg Inglis after the 33-year-old confirmed his league comeback.

Inglis shocked the rugby league world yesterday by signing a one-year deal with English Super League side Warrington 12 months after his NRL retirement.

While the Maroons' all-time Origin try-scorer said he would not emulate Queensland great Alan Langer and return to the Origin arena, Walters said the option was there.

"The door is always open for great Queenslanders if they ever want to come back and play, we never shut the door, that's always our way," he told Fox League Live.

"We dragged Arthur Beetson out of reserve grade at Parramatta at 35 years of age to lead Queensland out in the first-ever State of Origin."

Like Inglis, Langer was also plying his trade at Warrington after retiring from the NRL in 1999, before he famously flew in to clinch Wayne Bennett's Maroons the 2001 State of Origin series.

Despite Walters keeping the door open for Inglis, the NRL great admitted that an Origin appearance was not at the forefront of his mind.

"We're not doing an Alfie. There won't be a call about coming back into Origin," he said.

"It's nothing that I'm thinking about. I'm just thinking about getting my body right and getting ready for the move."
