Police to investigate Fyfe over COVID-19 breach

Fremantle Dockers captain Nat Fyfe is set to be investigated by West Australian police after he was photographed surfing during the state's coronavirus lockdown.

The state of Western Australia has closed its borders and implemented a number of regional travel bans for non-essential travellers.

Fyfe was spotted surfing in Margaret River which is more than 400 kilometres away from the town of Lake Grace where he's staying at during the AFL's shutdown.

The two-time Brownlow medallist was driving his dad's truck and picking up lime when he went through a police checkpoint to cross regional borders.

But his own club insist he only stopped for a surf as part of his exercise regime.

Police commissioner Chris Dawson declared they will investigate the situation.

"On the face of it, there are some questions that need to be answered," he said.

"An essential service is not surfing, unless you are a professional surfer. I'll leave it at that," he said.
