Why World Cup hero copped brutal Katy Perry denial

Australia's brilliant women's cricketers celebrated their T20 World Cup victory by dancing on stage with pop megastar Katy Perry ... except for one.

Rachael Haynes was the victim of awful timing after Sunday's final against India at a packed MCG.

The Aussie vice-captain was stuck in a drug test while her teammates hit the stage with Perry in front of a massive crowd, which peaked at 86,174 during the match.

"It was amazing - unfortunately, I saw the photos of it, because I was getting a drug test done at the time," Haynes revealed on TODAY.

"I missed it, but the girls said it was awesome."

Haynes elaborated on the unlucky miss on SEN, saying: "I am absolutely spewing about that.

"The rest of my teammates got up on stage … I saw the photos and the doctor came in and said, 'How good was it getting up and stage?' and I said, 'Are you kidding me?'

"I think the girls had a great time and it was awesome that she (Perry) allowed them to go up."

It was a tough break for Haynes, a once-in-a-lifetime chance gone begging, but there was no denying the majesty of the occasion.

The massive Cup final crowd was the biggest ever seen for a women's sporting event in Australia and threatened to topple the world record, set by the 1999 women's football World Cup final in California.

"It was a pretty incredible night yesterday, it was just unbelievable to have 86,000 people there at the MCG," Haynes said.

"To share in that moment was something we'll never forget."

And dancing with Perry was just one highlight of the Aussie celebrations, which lasted well into the night at the MCG.

"We actually ended up staying at the MCG well into the morning, to be honest," Haynes said on SEN.

"I'm not quite sure what time we left … once all the lights were out we went back out in the middle and spent some time out there and that was pretty cool.

"Molly Strano is always the one that leads the way and she was pretty funny last night so that was pretty fun."
